Las Vegas Makes a Huge Mistake and Hurts the Meetings Industry

First, let me start with this before I get pummeled. I believe Las Vegas is an excellent meeting destination (I will be in Las Vegas next Monday for a client event). I think groups should look at and seriously consider Las Vegas for their events.......Now lets get to what I want to talk about. This is about the Mayor and what he has done to our industry. What were his PR morons thinking.

So, last night was a baseball exhibition game between the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs.

The Mayor of Las Vegas is set to throw out the first pitch. In a beleaguered industry, this should be a chance to bring great exposure to his city.

Congress is getting ready to crack down on the meetings and events industry and President Obama himself has rallied against those "trips to Las Vegas". The industry is poised to enter a free fall state.

What a time to shine............or not. This image should help Congress decide what to do about the meetings and events industry real quick!!!!

The Mayor wanted an Apology from President Obama for what he said about the meetings industry, now I think that it is time the Mayor present the entire meetings and events industry with an apology for his utter desregard for the position we are all now in. He will not get any kudos from me. I don't care if he was trying to "make people see the fun side of Vegas" or whatever excuse they will throw at this. IRRESPONSIBLE and STUPID are the only words that I can think of to describe this.

He even took the girls to the mound when he threw out the first pitch. I can only hope that John Kerry hates the Sox and Cubs.
