About Me:
Deborah Cohen, Director of Marketing and Development at the Urban League of Greater Dallas received the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Global Certification in Meeting Management, the industry’s highest professional designation. The certification focuses on strategic thinking and management skills that are critical to advancement as a meeting professional. Cohen was one of 59 new recipients
Cohen, a native of Kansas City, KS, has been employed with the Urban League for over four years. Her duties include developing public relations strategies for local and national print and news media; creating partnerships and strategic alliances with corporate sponsors; and coordinating all fundraising for major events including the Annual Gala and Annual Meeting and Luncheon. Her fundraising efforts have netted over $1 million for the organization.
Cohen is also President and CEO of DC Global Meetings and Events and oversees all aspects of meeting and event planning including program development, marketing and promotion, budgeting, site selections, entertainment, food and travel arrangement, on-site management and post conference follow-up.
Prior to moving to the Dallas area, Cohen has held numerous positions including meeting planner, technical writer for government contracts and several faith-based positions. She has served as Minister of Music for various churches throughout the country and musician for the Laymen’s and Women’s Auxiliary of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., while holding various positions during her 35 years of service. Cohen has served as Executive Secretary to Moderator of Northeastern District Association, Musician for the Sunday School Publishing Board December Conference, Instructor for the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education Luci Campbell Workshop, and Oratorical Commission Board Member of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc.
Cohen is a gifted musician and played with the Kansas City Philharmonic during the 2000 Black History Month. She has played piano duet with noted musician Stan Kenton and in 2004 published the song “We Lift Our Gifts to You”.
She is a member of various organizations including National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners, Dallas Fort Worth Association of Executives, Meeting Professionals International DFW Chapter, YWCA Young Leaders Board and Secretary for the Galilee Griggs Memorial District Association of Baptist Churches.
She has received numerous awards including the prestigious Convention South Magazine 2008 December Edition Meeting Professional to Watch in 2009, D/FW Elite News 2008 Woman of Excellence, Spirit Award - MPI D/FW Chapter 2008, Rising Star Award Finalist - MPI D/FW Chapter 2008 and the 2003 Poet of the Year presented in Orlando, Florida.
