Welcome to the PlannerWire/PlannerMix Group! We are happy to have
you here, and we ask that you take a few moments to review our
policies, so everyone can enjoy a mutually beneficial community
experience. We all know life is much more pleasant when everyone
plays together nicely, and the following will outline the basics of
how we do it here.
PlannerWire is the News, Information, and Community website for
meeting and event professionals, and our mission is to help
industry pros (planners and suppliers alike) to make connections
through multiple web channels and social media platforms. As our
goal is to encourage information sharing and professional
networking opportunities, we wish to base our various communities
on a foundation of meaningful online interaction. While we do fully
believe in the use of social media as a powerful self-marketing
medium, we also believe social marketing should be about helping
and informing others where needed or requested… not simply shouting
your marketing message from the virtual rooftops.
With that in mind, please take our guidelines to heart when
interacting with industry colleagues through any
PlannerWire/PlannerMix-hosted group or discussion. Everyone
appreciates your cooperation.
It IS OKAY to...
...list your job title, company, URL, email address and other
contact information in any signature line you use in connection
with any PlannerWire/PlannerMix group. This way, any group member
is free to contact you outside the confines of the group if he or
she wants to learn more about you or your company, and you can take
care of all that marketing stuff on your own time.
...post details of open positions and job descriptions related to
your company in any PlannerWire/PlannerMix group. We fully support
and encourage the exchange of information regarding potential
employment opportunities for industry professionals, and you are
free to share this information as you please. If you can help
someone get hired, please do so.
...post details of any industry event that provides education,
learning resources, or professional networking opportunities for
planners or suppliers. Note: posting blatant marketing materials
regarding product launches or similar promotional events is
discouraged in any PlannerWire/PlannerMix group. And don't give us
that "I'm educating them about my company/product/service/facility"
spiel. We're not buying it.
...respond to requests for service/provider recommendations or
assistance with a brief message that states your ability to meet
the specified need. We feel it is useful for members of
PlannerWire/PlannerMix groups who might have a similar need to see
that your company/organization can help out. Note: posting blatant
marketing materials regarding your company, service, product, or
facility is strongly discouraged in any PlannerWire/PlannerMix
group. We recommend you simply post a note to the effect of "I can
assist you with that," and allow the individual requesting
information to follow up with you at his or her own initiative.
While PlannerWire/PlannerMix groups are great places to increase
your online visibility and position yourself as a helpful resource,
we do not feel that these groups are a suitable outlet for direct
marketing efforts. So keep it to yourself.
...respond to questions, discussions, or topics that interest you,
fall under your area of expertise, or to which you can offer
insights and comments that will be helpful to the community at
large. PlannerWire/PlannerMix absolutely encourages open discussion
of industry issues and topics for the information, benefit, and
professional development of everyone involved. These groups exist
to encourage online interaction and professional networking through
respectful, informative exchanges related to meetings and events.
If you have something to offer that is of genuine professional
interest, please jump in and participate.
It is NOT OKAY to...
...mine the members list of any PlannerWire/PlannerMix group for
the purpose of gathering contact information for unsolicited phone,
email, or mail approaches. We won't know this happens unless our
members tell us, but if anyone does tell on you, we will be very
unhappy with you, and you probably won't be able to sign in to a
PlannerWire/PlannerMix group again.
...advertise your company, service, product, or facility through
blatant marketing materials in any PlannerWire/PlannerMix group. No
one really wants to read your ads when they join a group for
meaningful discussion, and we thank you for leaving these materials
out of these discussion-focused groups.
...post blog entries, discussion threads, or other content with the
sole purpose of marketing a company, product, service, or facility
in any PlannerWire/PlannerMix group. Blogs and discussions are
provided to group members for the purpose of sharing information,
advice, educational resources, opinions, experiences, and other
non-marketing content. We know you have something to offer; tell us
about your niche, knowledge, real-world experiences, or areas of
expertise without advertising to us.
...approach members of any PlannerWire/PlannerMix group with
unsolicited offers or promotions within the confines of the group.
Note: if you can assist with a specific, stated need, you can post
a message stating that you can be of assistance, but please do not
use any PlannerWire/PlannerMix group to expand upon your company,
product, service, or facility in a manner intended solely to
promote your offerings. Community members can view the initial
request, they can view your reply stating that you can fill the
need, and everyone will know where to find you if they need
you.
...post deliberate attacks against any individual person in any
PlannerWire/PlannerMix group. We're all grownups here, and while we
do understand that some of the rants and raves about our
experiences in the industry inspire some of the best conversation,
we will not tolerate any mean-spirited, insulting, offensive or
otherwise no-good, trollish behavior against any one person, ever,
in any PlannerWire/PlannerMix groups.
Last, but not least: PlannerWire/PlannerMix reserves the right
to remove, at any time, any post, comment, or content that it deems
inappropriate, for any reason, without warning and without
notification to the poster. If your post disappears, it's because
we didn't feel it fit the goals or intentions of the
PlannerWire/PlannerMix groups. End of story.
If you have any questions, concerns, or comments regarding the
Terms of Use, please contact Serenity J. Knutson, Editor
in Chief of PlannerWire and Main Moderator of PlannerMix.
Again, thank you for joining us, and let's all work together to
make this community a meaningful place to learn and grow
professionally.
