The National Urban League, the nation’s oldest and largest community based and civil rights organization devoted to economic empowerment will launch a "Restore Our Home Program" on Saturday, June 13, 2009 here in Dallas, the program's first stop on an eight city National Urban League Economic Empowerment Tour. The Urban League of Greater Dallas is designated one of eight Gold Star Homeownership Centers that offers homebuyer education which serves as a foundation for participants to realize the American Dream of homeownership and wealth building.
We are expecting 3,000 to 4,000 people from within a 50 mile radius to participate in the one day event. It is intended to provide on-site, housing counseling to homeowners who are in danger of foreclosure or in the foreclosure process due to financial, legal or rate adjustment issues and to help homeowners start the process of getting to a workout or resolution of their mortgage problem. The Urban League of Greater Dallas, financial institutions and certified HUD housing counselors from throughout the Dallas Fort Worth area will provide initial intervention at this event. Housing Counselors from Fort Worth will be participating.
We will also host a job fair with confirmed employers who have job openings participating and provide Professional Development and Resume Workshops. In addition, we will provide health screenings and education on-site.

With over 25,000 local families in danger of losing their homes, this Urban League “Economic Empowerment Tour/Restore Our Homes” event will offer free, on-site housing counseling, lender services, and legal aid to those in immediate danger of foreclosure, plus a employment fair with local companies and professional career counseling for Dallas job seekers.
Please consider volunteering to help register and greet participants, provide direction to services and assist workshops, counselors and employers.
WHEN: Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Dallas Convention Center, Exhibit Hall C,
650 Griffin St., Dallas, TX 75202, 10:00 am – 4 pm, doors open at 9 am
VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers are needed for 2- 8 hour shifts. Please plan to arrive by 7:30 am for walk through, training and refreshments. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided for lunch.
