In addition to signing the online Keep America Meeting petition, what else are you doing to demonstrate your support of the meetings and events industry? What have you seen others doing? What else can we do as a community?
All thoughts, observations, experiences and comments are welcome! Let's spread the word!
I think you need to look at what MPI is posting on their website and try to forward their information to as many individuals as possible. That is what I am doing.
What we can do as a community is start to work closer together. Planners need suppliers, suppliers need planners -- yet there is no synergy between the two organizations. No trust. No referral process.
We need to start building those relationships and often times it needs to start with the supplier.
De-de, how can industry professionals work to build that level of trust and cross the border between planners and suppliers? How do those conversations begin? What elements are needed to create relationships and encourage synergy?
I have made it a company mandate to become more active in our industry associations and not simply for the networking possibilities.
Our industry associations are another way to make our voices come across loud and clear and allow us the opportunity to get out with people in our industry and try and stay ahead of the curve.
I have also made it a point to hire from within the industry, there is exceptional talent that is in need and we have been able to make strategic additions to our staff from others losses. This is something that I hope to continue.
As a community, I think that it is to our benefit to learn to work smarter and harder, for competitors to find ways to work together to capture certain jobs and for everyone to realize that the bad times will pass, it is just a question of how long.
